After an extensive major cleanup operation of the Singapore River in 1980s, a new pleasant landscape emerged. Those unpleasant floating garbage and pollution of disgusting odors totally disappeared from the scene. Those excessive wooden boats were relocated to the offshore of west coast. Newly built skyscrapers were added to both sides of the river mouth, old shop houses that were not demolished had renovated and repainted in bright colours, many of them had even turned into food and beverage outlets, colourful lightings from their décor and signboards shine brilliantly in the nights. The river scene has turned into a fresh new look that is very much appealing than before.

新加坡河在上个世纪80年代经过一番大规模清理之后，果然出现了怡人悦目的清新景象，河面上不再漂浮着那碍眼又恶心的垃圾，不再有扑鼻难闻的臭味。许多大大小小的木船已经被迁移到西部的海岸外，河面显然宽旷清幽不已。新盖的摩天楼矗然林立河口两岸，没有被拆除的老旧店屋也重新装修粉刷的焕然一新，有许多甚至改头换面，摇身一变成为饮食业场所，五颜六色的灯火点亮了漆黑的夜晚，河岸两边显现一片与往日迥然不同的欣欣向荣新风貌。
